Effective Date: March 19, 2026
Pearlcity LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Innerlog mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.
Innerlog is a private, AI-powered journaling application that helps you reflect on your thoughts and emotions. The App provides mood tracking, writing prompts, and AI-generated reflections on your journal entries.
Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the App.
Privacy at a Glance: Innerlog is designed with a privacy-first approach. All of your journal entries, mood data, AI reflections, and personal preferences are stored exclusively on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData). We do not maintain user accounts, collect email addresses, or store your journal data on any cloud server. The only data that leaves your device is when you explicitly request an AI reflection or weekly insight โ at that point, your journal entry text and mood data are sent to Google's Gemini AI service (via Firebase) to generate a personalized reflection.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
We collect information that you voluntarily provide when using the App:
- Journal Entries: The text content you write in your journal entries. This is stored locally on your device and is only sent to Google's Gemini AI when you explicitly request an AI reflection.
- Mood Data: The mood ratings you assign to journal entries (1-5 scale). This is stored locally on your device and may be included when generating AI reflections and weekly insights.
- Tone Preferences: Your preferred AI reflection tone (Thoughtful Friend, Gentle Coach, Mindful Observer, or Direct Mentor). Stored locally on your device.
- App Preferences: Settings such as biometric lock preference, selected tone, and onboarding status. Stored locally on your device.
1.2 Information We Do NOT Collect
Innerlog does not collect or store:
- Your name, email address, or account credentials (the App does not require an account)
- Location data
- Contacts or phone data
- Health data from Apple HealthKit or any other health frameworks
- Advertising identifiers or tracking data
- Photos, camera data, or microphone recordings
2. How Your Data is Stored
On-Device Only: All of your personal data โ journal entries, mood ratings, AI reflections, weekly insights, and preferences โ is stored exclusively on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's SwiftData framework (on-device storage). We do not operate any cloud database or server that stores your personal information. If you delete the App, all locally stored data is permanently removed.
3. AI Service and Data Sharing
Important: AI Data Processing Disclosure
Innerlog uses Google's Gemini AI to generate personalized reflections on your journal entries and weekly mood insights. This section explains exactly what data is shared, with whom, and how you can control it.
3.1 Google Gemini AI โ What Data Is Sent
When you explicitly request an AI reflection on a journal entry, or when the App generates a weekly insight, the following data is sent to Google's Gemini AI service (accessed via the Firebase AI Logic SDK):
- Journal entry text: The content of the journal entry you are requesting a reflection on
- Mood rating: The mood score (1-5) associated with that entry
- Recent entry context: Up to 3 recent prior journal entries may be included to provide continuity and help the AI notice patterns
- Tone preference: Your selected reflection tone (e.g., "Thoughtful Friend" or "Direct Mentor")
- Mood history: For weekly insights, your mood ratings from the past 7 days may be included
What is NOT sent:
- Your name, email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information
- Your device identifier or location
- Your full journal history (only the specific entry and up to 3 recent entries for context)
- Any data from other apps on your device
3.2 How Google Processes Your Data
Your journal data is processed by Google's Gemini AI to generate a reflection or insight. Google processes this data according to:
- Google's Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google's Gemini API Terms: ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms
- Firebase Terms of Service: firebase.google.com/terms
Per Google's Gemini API terms, data sent through the paid API tier is not used to train Google's AI models.
3.3 When Data Is Sent
Data is only sent to Google's Gemini AI when you perform one of these explicit actions:
- Tap the "Reflect" button on a journal entry to request an AI reflection
- The App generates a weekly mood insight (based on your entries from the past 7 days)
Simply writing a journal entry does NOT send any data to any external service. Journaling is always private and on-device.
3.4 Other Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Google Gemini AI (via Firebase AI Logic SDK) | Generate AI reflections and weekly insights | Journal text, mood rating, up to 3 recent entries, tone preference |
| Firebase Remote Config | Manage AI model version | No personal data |
| Firebase App Check | Verify authentic app requests | Device attestation token (no personal data) |
| Apple StoreKit 2 | Subscription management | Handled entirely by Apple |
4. Your Consent and How to Revoke It
4.1 In-App Consent
Before any journal data is sent to Google's Gemini AI service, the App presents a clear consent screen that explains:
- What data will be sent (journal entries, mood data)
- Who receives it (Google's Gemini AI)
- How it is used (to generate personalized reflections)
You must explicitly accept this consent before any AI features are activated. If you decline, the App continues to function as a private journal.
4.2 How to Revoke Consent
You can revoke your AI data consent at any time:
- Open Innerlog
- Go to Settings (gear icon in the tab bar)
- Toggle off AI Data Consent
When you revoke consent, no further journal data will be sent to any AI service. Previously generated reflections remain stored locally on your device.
5. Data Security
- On-Device Storage: Your journal never leaves your device except during active AI reflection generation
- Biometric Lock: Face ID and Touch ID support to prevent unauthorized access
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted to Google's AI service is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
- Firebase App Check: Verifies API requests originate from the authentic Innerlog app
6. Data Retention
- Your data persists as long as the App is installed on your device
- Deleting the App permanently removes all locally stored data
- We do not retain any of your personal data on our servers
- Google's Gemini AI may retain API request data for a limited period per their terms
7. Your Privacy Rights
California (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt-out of sale (we do not sell your data).
European (GDPR)
EEA residents have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, and data portability. Since all data is stored on your device, you can exercise these rights directly through the App.
8. Children's Privacy
Innerlog is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at appfactory1970@gmail.com.
